VEGETARIAN MUSEUM IN CHICAGO SEEKS PERMANENT LOCATION

The National Vegetarian Museum in Chicago has set out a mission to educate and demonstrate the values and benefits of veganism and vegetarianism for human health, the environment, and the well-being of all life.

The National Vegetarian Museum opened on February 1, 2017 and is the first such museum in the United States. At present, the National Vegetarian Museum consists of one exhibit, “What Does It Mean to Be Vegetarian?” on 12 seven-by-three-foot panels and a TV screen with noted author/speaker Victoria Moran giving a 5-minute presentation. The exhibit invites visitors to explore vegetarianism’s past and present, discovering the history of the vegetarian movement and the vitality of today’s vegan community. The Museum to date has exhibited at fifteen different Chicago and suburban cultural institutions and attracted hundreds of visitors every month.

The exhibition relocates to a different venue every 1-2 months and schedule a program for the location each month, either a speaker, a documentary or a food demonstration. Although the Museum’s name is vegetarian due to their history, they promote veganism today.

They are hoping to find a permanent location for the NVM Museum and expand both the number and size of the exhibits while also continuing with the travelling exhibit.
